A 25-year-old man was struck and killed by a city bus after trying to retrieve a skateboard in traffic.

Kevin Zeng, a resident of Bell Boulevard in Bayside, was walking on Union Turnpike near Grand Central Parkway at 6:27 p.m. on Friday, July 21, when he dropped his skateboard onto the right lane of the four-lane roadway.

An oncoming Q46 bus operator tried to dodge Zeng, who chased after the skateboard, but she couldn’t avoid him, police said. Zeng was struck with the front right passenger side of the bus.

When police arrived on the scene, they discovered Zeng laying on the roadway with head trauma. The bus operator remained at the scene.

EMS rushed Zeng to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The investigation is ongoing and there have been no arrests.
