A woman was hit by a car and killed on Woodhaven Boulevard and 63rd Avenue as she crossed in the middle of the street at approximately 6 a.m. on Tuesday, September 29th.

Police are in the process of notifying the victim's family and have yet to release her name. She was pronounced dead at the scene and no criminality is suspected.

The victim may have been trying to cross Woodhaven Boulevard to get to the Q11/Q21 bus stop, according to bystanders.

Traffic was backed up until about 10:15 a.m. as police closed all but one lane on Woodhaven Boulevard northbound.

Bystanders at the scene talked about how Woodhaven Boulevard has become the new Queens Boulevard because of its treacherous conditions for pedestrians.

“This happens once a year,” said Bob Bedor of Rego Park, who has been living in the area since 1990.

“They’re going to have to do something about this,” said Joanne Stewart. “People always speed down Woodhaven.”
