In the Local Designer spotlight this week we have three Brooklyn based designers: Helena Fredriksson, Study NY and DLC Brooklyn. These three creative ladies came together and showcased their designs in a “Think Local” themed trunk show and preview for their spring 2011 collections.

The ‘shop local’ movement has been particularly important to local designers over the past few years. When encouraging customers to shop locally, they can find unique, individual items that are handmade and original.

AL Events along with The Dress Recycler showcased the designers in the beautiful, icy, winter themed Polar Lounge at The Marcel Hotel in Manhattan.

The spring 2011 collection of Study NY is Tara’s third collection, using hand-dyed ikat silks that represent no-waste patternmaking. Her use of transitional patterns and functionality of the clothing designate her line as eco-friendly and trendless. When not developing her own collection she is busy helping others develop their own creative skills. In her ‘study hall’ program, she works with a community of interns to help them hone their inner designer.

By the end of the program they have successfully developed their own mini collections. Find out more about Study NY at

Owner and head designer of the H. Fredriksson clothing line, Helena Fredriksson graced the crowd with her luxurious silks and prints. Her line is the true definition of femininity and sophistication. With her silk tunics, rompers and tanks, her pieces always transition well from day to evening. They layer in an infinite amount of ways and are season-less.

Helena is a true gem in her craft which shines through in her presentation and reputable customer service.Visit her site at

Susan of DLC Brooklyn is the owner and creative genius behind this eco-conscious jewelry collection. As a true redeemer of the term “recycle, refuse and reuse”, DLC Brooklyn has a complete online marketplace where you can find the most innovative, original pieces in the handmade jewelry market today.

All of her jewelry is created from vintage and dead stock pieces that are reconstructed into new, original statement pieces that will never go out of style. Her fabulous collection is open for browsing 24 hours a day at
