Studies have shown certain activities can be harmful to your brain cells. While these activities (i.e. drinking heavily or banging your head against a wall) may be enjoyable on occasion, it’s probably best to limit how often you do them. I’d bet that if these studies were conducted after viewing “The Other Guys,” similar conclusions would be found.

Leaving the theater you might experience a sensation of having misplaced something. Don’t worry, your keys are still in your pocket; but what you’ve lost is 107 minutes of your life, the price of a movie ticket and at least 15 I.Q. points.

Still want to see the movie? Why not? Sometimes it’s nice to put your mind on snooze for a while. There are jokes, chase scenes, gunfights and Eva Mendes, so the movie should appeal to most teenage boys.

The plot (and I am using that term loosely) follows two police officers, Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg, who are low on the police totem pole. They inhabit these positions because Ferrell is hiding from the world and Wahlberg once accidentally shot a public figure.

At the top of the police food chain are two flashy cops played by Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson (formerly known as The Rock). With these two characters in place, the movie does a good job parodying police action movies like “Bad Boys” and “Die Hard.”

When Jackson and Johnson can no longer fulfill their duties, there is an opening for some other guys to step in and fill the hero void. Ferrell and Wahlberg make their move and this disaster of a movie follows. One bright spot is that Ferrell can make even a bad movie fun, and some of the jokes really are hilarious.

Am I a worse person for having seen this film? I hope not. And it’s possible my I.Q might recover. If you’re looking for one last bad summer movie before school starts, go see “The Other Guys.”
