Fakira previously worked as the Business Manager and Assistant Budget Director for Adult and Children with Learning and Development Disabilities’ Children’s Services. He has over 15 years of experience in the nonprofit and academic sectors.
As part of his new responsibilities, Fakira will oversee the multi-service organization’s financial management, human resources, information technology, administrative and facilities departments. The Forest Hills-based nonprofit currently operates on a $15 million annual budget.
The Operations Department provides a vital support structure for QCH’s 45 distinct programs for children, teens, families, and older adults, as well as allowing the organization to take advantage of emerging opportunities.
“I have become well versed in the intricacies of operating nonprofit organizations such as QCH, meeting the needs of service recipients, navigating tumultuous funding environments, and maneuvering through the alphabet soup of regulatory bodies,” Fakira said. “Taken together, I hope to create resourceful, real world strategies that foster continued success for QCH.”
Fakira has a master’s of science in neuroscience from Rutgers University/New Jersey Medical School and will become a certified public accountant later this year upon completion of dual M.S. in Accounting and M.B.A. degrees from SUNY Polytechnic Institute.
A native New Yorker born and raised in Jackson Heights, Fakira is now starting a family in Forest Hills and understands just what QCH has meant to the borough over the years.
“We are adapting the settlement house model to the needs of our community,” Fakira remarked. “QCH’s long history of success and stellar reputation provides a legacy as well as an incentive to keep strengthening and developing our programming for the entire community.”
