“It was actually shocking how much they loved it,” Atout said. “A lot of other people asked us about it, so we realized this seems like something people want.”
Atout and Hodges, who are engaged, decided to start their own company called Songlorious to provide a new service: creating personalized songs for their customers.
The process is simple. Customers can go onto their website, pick among seven genres of music and tell a story that they want the song to be about. The information is then forwarded to Songlorious’s team of artists, who write a personalized song that captures the story.
“When you’re writing a story, you’re always trying to find inspiration,” he said. “What makes this a lot easier is that customers write down their story. It’s a perfect source of inspiration.”
Though Atout and Hodges started on their own, within the first two weeks they received 100 orders.
“We couldn’t handle it ourselves, so we started to bring other artists on board,” Atout said. “We get 20 to 25 orders now and we’re going everyday.”
The most gratifying part of Songlorious is the effect that the songs have on their customers, Atout said. Customers often tell the co-founders how much they love their unique songs.
“When you make a song and it’s for somebody, the impact it has on them is amazing,” he said. “We were shocked at how many people told us they cried.
“Music can really affect your emotions in the moment,” Atout added. “It’s one of the only things that can instantly change your mood.”
