Dear Editor,

Kurt Vonnegut, the author of Slaughterhouse Five and other renowned novels, often demanded that the government have a Secretary of the Future. Only by having a long view could a viable society anticipate, plan and prepare for the needs of its citizenry.

The falling poll numbers for President Donald Trump and his inability to comprehend the mindset of the people as demonstrated by his walk to Trinity Church only to hold a Bible upside down as a prop indicates a troubling time to come. Trump in 2016 stated he would not accept the outcome of the election if he lost.

Analytics by various polling organizations have predicted Trump’s chances of winning a second term is 30 percent.

As an incumbent and with an attorney general who is a dedicated supporter of the president rather than the Constitution, there must be real concern. Is it possible that the Trump/Barr Team would attempt a coup against the people?

The actions by both give cause to consider this possibility. It is time to ponder a future wherein the votes of the people are eradicated leaving in power a president that was not elected.
