Food & wine festival coming to Forest Hills Stadium

Since Forest Hills Stadium was revived in 2013, the venue has hosted a string of big-name concerts, including Bob Dylan, Mumford & Sons, Dolly Parton, Drake and Disclosure.

Although the venue has become known for its concerts and upcoming world team tennis matches, Forest Hills Stadium concert promoter Madison House Presents has partnered with City Winery for the City Winery Open, a new music, wine and food festival.

The two-day event, taking place on Saturday, September 17, and Sunday, September 18, will feature 10 artists. Aretha Franklin will headline the festival with a performance on Sunday night. Shows by Gillian Welch, Dawes, Josh Ritter and Houndmouth will precede Franklin throughout Sunday.

Sheryl Crow, The Wallflowers, The Chris Robinson Brotherhood, Deer Tick and The Wild Feathers will perform on Saturday. While visitors must be 21 years of age to consume alcohol, the performances are open to all ages.

“Over its 100-year history, Forest Hills Stadium has played host to the biggest rock stars and sports icons,” said Madison House Presents president Mike Luba. “Now with City Winery Open, we’re excited to add New York City’s top chefs and the world’s top winemakers to that list.”

Set breaks between performances, while will last about an hour, will allow festival goers to sample food and wine.

Some of New York’s top chefs and restauranteurs, like Daniel Boulud, Drew Nieporent, David Waltuck, Marcus Samuelsson, and Joey Campanaro, will be among the 40 chefs and restaurants featured at the festival. More than 75 wineries from around the world will also participate.

The festival will be a cashless event, with festival goers purchasing wine and food with “tastes.” Wine options will be available for either one, two or three tastes, while food samples can be purchased for one "taste" each.

All purchases will be made by using a personalized RFID wristband that will be mailed to festival goers by late August/early September. Festival goers can use cash, credit or debit cards to “top up” their credits on the wristbands at designated Top-Up Stations throughout the grounds.

Prior to the event, value can be added to the wristband, which is mandatory to enter the festival. There will be a customer service station on Burns Street outside of the stadium.

“Over the past eight years at City Winery, we have been blessed to cultivate relationships with stars in the worlds of music, food and wine that converge to create such a unique experience at our five locations around the country,” said City Winery founder and CEO Michael Dorf. “The Open is our opportunity to express this vision at a much larger scale, with the same commitment to quality, in a two-day experience in our own backyard.”

Reserved seating for the festival starts at $75 for one day and $140 for both days. There are also a number of ticket packages available, which include reserved seating as well as additional tastes. For more information, visit
